Module 1: Moving off & Stopping the Car

The very first lesson in which you actually drive the car will be the one in which you learn how to start and stop the car effectively and safely. No matter how excited or confident you are before this session, actually starting the car can be nerve-wracking. Just remember, your instructor will guide you and has the ability to stop the car in case of an emergency. However, you must still drive as if you were the only one in control, the instructor's ability to prevent an accident should only allow you to drive more freely and confidently. With that out of the way, let's move onto my experience with this lesson. I was fortunate enough to find an open slot to book right after my induction program so the controls of the car were still fresh in my mind. After finding my allocated car and instructor, I sat in the passenger's seat (yes, the passenger's seat, again) and handed him my training record book. The first 15 minutes of the session were spent with the car still park...

The Induction Programme

The Induction Programme, the compulsory lesson that must be taken before any practical driving lessons, serves as your introduction to the Comfort Delgro Driving Center and the cars it uses. Though the programme is listed to be 100 minutes long, it is usually shorter than that and you will be required to wait for your turn in the Induction Room before the instructor takes you to the car, so, bring something to pass your time (a book, for example). The program itself can be very exciting as, if you are a new driver, this is the first time you will be sitting on the driver's seat of a car. However, to carry forward that excitement, I would suggest booking a lesson immediately after your induction since you don't really get to drive during this session. Wait, you may ask, "What actually happens during the Induction if we don't get to drive?" Upon entering and checking-in at the front desk, you will be directed to the Induction room, a small garage-like room located w...

The Basic Theory Test

The Basic Theory Test is a short, 50 question multiple-choice test that must be completed within 50 minutes. Its purpose is to test your knowledge of the traffic rules and regulations as well as the signs and markings in Singapore. Passing this test requires a score of 90% or above (at least 45 correct answers) and is required to obtain a PDL (Provisional Driver's License). But how should one prepare for such a test? With so many signs and road markings all around Singapore and an endless list of rules, this must be the hardest part of the process...right?  NO! It is not. Take my word for it. The only thing this test requires is some reading and practice. That is all, you could be ready for it within a week or two! Being enrolled with CDC, you get 15 hours of e-learning access. This provides short video clips with narration as well as text explaining the rules of conduct while driving on the road as well as the message conveyed by the various signs and road-markings in Singa...

Enrollment at CDC

My driving journey began with research, a lot of it. Stuck at home amidst a pandemic, having completed high school and waiting for university classes to begin, time was something I had too much of for the first time in years. Browsing the internet for countless hours resulted in an understanding of the steps involved in obtaining a license and the three driving schools in Singapore where this could be done.   The three most popular driving schools in Singapore are: ComfortDelgro Driving Center (CDC) Bukit Batok Driving Center (BBDC) Singapore Safety Driving Center (SSDC)   ComfortDelgro Driving Center is located at Ubi Avenue 4 and its location was the most convenient for me. Thus, I proceeded to enroll CDC for a Class 3A (Automatic Transmission Car) License.   Before diving into the particulars of the course at CDC, let's discuss the process of obtaining a license in Singapore.   There are three tests, two theory tests that i...
